A British pensioner has drowned trying to rescue her granddaughter from the sea in Menorca.
The woman, who was in her 70s, rushed to help the 10-year-old, who was using an inflatable float when she ran into difficulties in strong currents with northerly gusts of up to 30mph on Thursday afternoon.
Her husband and daughter also tried to reach the child after she started drifting away from the coast towards a rocky area and her small inflatable turned over.
