Christina Fuller is an American former military spouse living without legal residency in southern Spain, where a custody fight has kept her and her son for years. When her family arrived near the Strait of Gibraltar on US military orders, her son was two. Now, he’s nearly 10.
Fuller’s marriage to a US Navy sailor assigned to a guided-missile destroyer at Naval Station Rota fell apart soon after the family arrived in 2019.
When her husband filed for divorce in 2021, a Spanish court barred either parent from taking their child out of the country without the other’s permission. The next year, the Navy ordered her husband back to the US as the divorce was finalized and Fuller appealed a Spanish custody order.
