Police told a driver who picked up a dead deer from the side of the road that he was "stealing from the council".
Guy Carpenter, 42, was stopped by police as he picked up a dead deer on the A66 near Barnard Castle, Co Durham, on June 7.
Mr Carpenter, from Dalton, North Yorkshire, was later charged under the Deer Act 1991 and taken to court. However, Durham Constabulary said it has withdrawn proceedings against Mr Carpenter after a review.
