Flights across Europe were forced into emergency landings by a series of bomb threats.

Eight planes, including three from Britain, were targeted on Tuesday, raising fears of a co-ordinated sabotage attack.

But a British government spokesman told The Telegraph that the threats had been a "malicious hoax".

On Tuesday morning, a flight from London Heathrow to Warsaw's main Chopin airport was diverted, forcing the closure of Modlin airport in the Polish capital while searches were carried out.
