If you’ve been outside since 2020, you’ve probably noticed Hoka. You may even own a pair. The once-niche running shoe brand has gone from a favorite among trail and mountain runners to an everyday fixture on sidewalks, running paths, and in airports. Founded in 2009, Hoka built its reputation on plush cushioning and oversized midsoles, an aesthetic that has since become impossible to miss.
The Clifton is our go-to for everyday running, while the Speedgoat series is our favorite for trail running. The latter is cushioned enough for long miles and responsive enough to handle technical terrain. Its grip is excellent, too, making it an all-arounder rather than a shoe reserved for a particular type of trail. For hiking, we love Hoka’s more rugged Anacapa line.
