Today, Thursday 5th November, 2026, Sony shared its latest financial results, reporting on the second quarter of financial year 2026 for the company. In a wide-ranging set of statements, we learned that the company's overall profits have been charged by the box office success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and that its annual profit outlook has been raised following a particularly successful quarter.
As for PlayStation, Sony CFO Lin Tao hinted at the status of the PlayStation 6 - not yet named as such - which is currently being worked on in the company's gaming division. He noted that the console is "progressing as scheduled" and that staff are making "solid progress" on the machine (thanks, VGC). Tao also revealed that it's been a strong year for the PS5; total sales for the console have reached 97.9 million, thanks to a further 2.6 million sales throughout July, August and September 2026.
