Graham Norton’s rise from controversial comedian to royalty’s favourite presenter
Graham Norton

Television history was made on Friday night with the surprise debut appearance of Prince William on The Graham Norton Show. Deftly guided by Norton, the Prince of Wales proved a delightful chat show guest, telling a self-deprecating anecdote about someone confusing him with the singer Prince, sharing his love of The Celebrity Traitors, as well as "deep-thinking" Christopher Nolan films, and confessing that, as a youngster, he had ambitions to be a policeman and then a DJ.

Prince William also gamely sparred with his fellow guests, who are all involved with the Earthshot Prize that he founded – actresses Cate Blanchett and Hannah Waddingham, and conservationist Robert Irwin. After a mortified Irwin defended posing for sexy photographs in his pants while holding snakes, Prince William quipped: "I'm still thinking about your python." He even stuck around for the Big Red Chair segment, and tipped a member of the public out when their story rambled on.
